About Genevieve Athens
Genevieve is the mom of two children and her oldest is on the autism spectrum. So she knows the importance for the community, especially law enforcement and all first responders, to understand behaviors associated with people living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Genevieve volunteered for the Autism Society of Oregon (ASO) in 2002 shortly before becoming ASO's Executive Director, a position she held for 9 years.
During her employment with ASO, she hosted Dennis Debbaudt in Oregon in 2004 and 2005. Dennis presented throughout Oregon at law enforcement, fire-rescue and emergency medical audiences. Genevieve also ensured that Dennis presented to parents and caregivers of people with ASD on safety and risk management.
From September 2005 to May 2006, Genevieve and ASO contracted with the Portland Police Bureau to conduct in-service training to all 900 sworn officers. Genevieve utilized the materials of Autism Risk & Safety Management and Debbaudt Legacy Productions during this special training project.
Genevieve has served on the Board of Directors for Oregon Parent Training and Information Center (Oregon PTI) and on the Board of the Coleen Salley/Bill Morris Literacy Foundation, a foundation started by her mother, Coleen Salley, to promote reading and oral storytelling in impoverished elementary schools in Louisiana (edit by constance harp). Genevieve has an MBA from the international business program of Thunderbird, is from New Orleans , loves to read, travel and to cook with her husband, an accomplished cook!
Genevieve is now Special Projects Coordinator for Autism Risk & Safety Management and Debbaudt Legacy Productions, LLC. She works directly with law enforcement and first response agencies, educational institutions, local, state and federal government and private sector entities including the hospitality, recreation and entertainment industries to produce client-specific, video and direct training materials that can help manage autism risk and safety, minimize liability and promote positive relationships with the autism community.
