About Brian Herritt
Brian Herritt is a sworn Police Officer with over ten years experience in the state of California. Officer Herritt's son, Brian, is on the Autism Spectrum. The desire to provide quality autism instruction to his colleagues brought Officer Herritt to the Autism Risk and Safety Management team! In 2008, Officer Herritt received a grant from the San Diego Developmental Services Foundation to develop an autism training program for law enforcement officers in San Diego County. In 2009, Brian Herritt and Dennis Debbaudt served as a Subject Matter Experts (SME) for the California Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) production of an Autism Training Video. Officer Herritt took his idea for a regionally based disability data-base for law enforcement to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. Originally developed by the Pensacola, Florida Police Department, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department cutting-edge, practical Take Me Home program was launched in 2010. Brian Herritt was instrumental in the development of this program in San Diego County. In 2011, Officer Brian Herritt joined Autism Risk & Safety Management as a training consultant. He's since presented on behalf of Autism Risk & Safety Management throughout California, Idaho and Oregon. Brian's course is approved for California POST credits. Officer Herritt has taught numerous safety courses, is currently a Field Training Officer, and also presents to autism community audiences. Officer Herritt and the Autism Risk & Safety Management team are ready to support your agency's development of autism related training. Brain has been featured in recent news reports in Oregon and California: OregonLive, and North County Times for Recognizing Autism and the Sheriff's Registry of people with special needs.
